Eating like a Local

3 Zum Gemalten Haus: The translation of this classic Frankfurt spot is “in the painted house” – the walls sport frescos depicting scenes of local life. Since the late 19 th century, this place has been brewing its own Äpfelwein, Äppelwoi or Ebbelwei, an apple cider unique to Frankfurt.

They are famous for their green sauce (another Frankfurt specialty), ribs with bread and sauerkraut and sausages.

You may even end up sharing a pitcher of cider. Suggestions: Frankfurter Schnitzel (veal cutlet) with green sauce and sautéed potatoes or the Frankfurter Platte (a little of everything for four people: ribs, pork shoulder, sausages and tidbits, with potatoes and sauerkraut).
